Kia Elan period: 1996 - 1999 engine: 1.8L DOHC 151 bhp After the final production run of the Lotus Elan in 1995, Kia bought the tools and production rights and began manufacturing their own version under license. The cars look quite similar to the SE's but had different suspensions, engine, interior, tail lights and other alterations. This development was made by KIA and therefore the cars are KIA's based on a Lotus design. The biggest difference is the 1.8 litre, 151 bhp engine Kia used in place of Lotus's 1.6 litre. After Hyundai took over Kia, the production stopped. In total 792 cars were built. |
Kia KMS 2 Concept Roger Becker and collegues had a plan to reduce the production cost of the Elan. It never made it.
