Lotus Mk IX
Vic Smeed (copywright Model Maker)
Scratch-built from drawings in "Model Maker" by Vic Smeed. Later
"MM" drawings appeared in the English "Car Model" magazine.
Hard wood body with aluminium cockpit trim, aluminium chassis pan, 1.5 cc diesel
engine. Dimensions - length 11.5", width 5". It was made from a kit.

#48 Le Mans 1955, C Chapman and R Flockhart
Lotus first raced at Le Mans in 1955 with the Mk IX. Chapman and
Flockhart lost some time due to a slipping clutch but were running
well when the car was disqualified when Chapman reversed it out of a
sand bank after an off-road excursion. |
