Henri Baigent

scratch built, see http://www.henribaigent.org/

During 1967, the Ford company approached Henri to make a model (as a trophy) of the car that they had developed with Colin Chapman's Lotus company for the seasons Grand Prix. The original order was for eight cars, one for Mr Chapman, one for each driver and others for the designer etc. This meant that Henri really had to get moving so that the order would not go stale before the end of the Grand Prix season. Car no 5, Jim Clark's, the first finished of the 8 ordered. It is not clear how many cars of the original order have been made.

Tamiya

kit, plastic, 2015

Tamiya first released their 1:12 Lotus 49 way back in 1968 and for many years these kits have been unavailable with rumours of lost or damaged moulds meaning that it wouldn’t reappear. Looking through the sprues in the kit, some bear the original kit number, while others have this new issue number on and a current date, so at least some has been retooled. Definite new additions are etched parts for the radiator and brakes and machined inlet trumpets and there’s a fair amount of plumbing and wiring for the exposed engine. A new decal print offers four options, with the cars of Clark & Hill from either the Dutch or Belgian Grand Prix and there is a seated Graham Hill driver figure, complete with moustache. Well worth the wait!
